On March 13, 2026, the Villach campus of CUAS at tpv will host the international team mathematics competition Náboj for the fourth time.

In mid-March, the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) at the tpv Technology Park Villach will once again host one of Europe’s most prestigious mathematics competitions for secondary school students. With the fourth edition of Náboj at the Villach campus, CUAS is bringing the international competition back to Carinthia. The event highlights the university’s strong commitment to fostering young STEM talents.

MATHEMATICS COMPETITION NÁBOJ

In the international team competition Náboj, teams of four to five students, each representing one of the participating schools, compete against each other. The goal is to solve as many challenging mathematical problems as possible within 120 minutes. The competition is known for its dynamic, sport-like format and takes place simultaneously in multiple European countries.

Around 1,000 teams from approximately ten countries participate in total. In the 2025 edition at the Villach campus, around 130 students from eight secondary schools in Villach, Klagenfurt, and Lienz took part. In addition to mathematical expertise and understanding, Náboj also promotes teamwork, solution-oriented thinking, and collaborative work.

FOCUS ON STEM PROMOTION

Hosting the competition is an important part of FH Kärnten’s STEM promotion activities. The aim is to inspire young talents early in mathematics, strengthen their analytical thinking, and highlight the importance of teamwork. Alongside the academic challenge, the focus is also on motivation and the joy of solving problems together – skills that are essential for future innovations.
