The Institute for Applied Research on Ageing (IARA) researches the challenges and opportunities of an ageing population. It is the first research center of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) to specialize in applied research. The goal is to conduct hands-on research on model projects in order to develop interdisciplinary solutions that can improve the health, social, and economic conditions for older people.
The results can be utilized by decision-makers in politics and industry, as well as by civil society organizations. They also feed into the practice-oriented learning activities at CUAS. The IARA research center on ageing is characterized by its practical orientation, participatory research methods, and its transdisciplinarity. This transdisciplinarity is achieved through the collaboration of three departments with social scientific, economic, and technical expertise.
